If you enjoy Aground

You wash up on an empty shore with a storm closing in, and the first hour of Aground is a scramble to gather wood and stone before night. From there it slowly opens into a long survival and crafting game where you mine downward, build a base, and pull other castaways out of the sea to help you grow.

Aground is free to play here in your browser. There is nothing to download and no account to make, so you can start it on a desktop, a phone, or a Chromebook and pick up where the wreck left you.

What is Aground?

Aground is a 2D pixel survival and crafting adventure made by Fancy Fish Games. The core loop is gather, build, mine, repeat: you chop wood and break stone on the surface, dig into the ground for ore, and feed those resources into a growing list of crafted buildings and tools. Survivors you rescue move into your settlement and take on jobs, so a run that starts as one person on a beach turns into a small working colony. It leans more toward steady progression than fast action.

Controls and movement

Movement is on WASD or the arrow keys, and almost everything else runs off a few action keys. The table covers the default desktop layout.

Mining and gathering

Wood and stone come from the surface, but the deeper materials are underground. Stand next to a rock or tree and use the action key to harvest it, then carry the load back to a crafting station. Digging straight down is how you reach ore, and the further you go the better the materials get, which is also where the game starts asking you to plan instead of just react.

Building your base and colony

Crafted buildings are how you turn raw piles of resources into progress. Each one unlocks the next step, so the early shelter leads to workstations, storage, and homes for the survivors you bring in. The list below is the kind of thing you work toward rather than a full recipe sheet.

BuildWhat it does
ShelterA safe spot to ride out the first storm and night
Crafting stationTurns wood and stone into tools and parts
StorageHolds the ore and materials you stockpile
HomesHouse rescued survivors so they stay and work

Watching your stamina

Most actions drain a stamina bar, and when it empties you cannot chop, mine, or build until it recovers. Food and rest bring it back. This is the soft clock that keeps you from clearing the map in one sitting: you eat berries and cooked food, time your big mining trips around it, and learn not to start a long dig on an empty bar.

Is Aground free and unblocked?

Yes. The full game runs in the browser on this page with no download, no install, and no sign up. Because it loads as a normal web page it tends to work at school or on a work network where browser games are allowed. Progress is local to your session, so use the same device and browser if you want to continue a long run.

Tips for surviving the early game

Why the slow start works

The first few minutes feel bare, just one figure and a beach, and that is the point. Every building you add changes what is possible next, so the moment a lone survivor becomes a small busy colony is earned rather than handed to you. It rewards patience more than reflexes, which makes it a different kind of survival game from the usual quick action ones.
